[ARCHIVED] Construction Notice

Water and Sewer Social Media Post- Virtual Forums Corrected

The Town of Reading and its contractors will begin replacing sewer and water mains Downtown. This is part of the Town-wide water and sewer distribution system improvement program. Construction is scheduled to begin in late April and early May for the sewer work and last approximately one month on Haven Street. Water main construction is not yet scheduled, but is expected to start within the next six-months to a year. For continued up-to-date information please check our website and social media pages.

Area of Work

The sewer work, which is expected to take place in May 2022, will be focused on Haven Street from Atlantic Way to High Street. Additional night time work is to be expected on Washington Street from Main Street to Village Street. Water main updates and replacements will encompass most of the depot area, between Main Street, Woburn Street, and High Street.

Communication Prior to Construction

  • Today, March 31, 2022, the Town of Reading’s Engineering Division and Economic Development Division will be working together to notify businesses door-to-door of this upcoming work in addition to this e-mail.

  • On Monday, April 11, 2022 the Engineering Division will be hosting virtual information sessions at 8:30AM and 6PM. The information sessions will be recorded and posted to the Town’s project website for reference. Attached is a flyer with more information.

Meeting ID: 843 8069 7959

Passcode: 010522

One tap mobile: 16465588656

Additional communication will include phone calls, signage boards, press releases, social media postings and a DPW project website.

Communication During Construction

During construction, businesses will again be notified in-person when work will be occurring in front of their property. General project updates will be available on the Town’s website and social media pages.

Impacts and Mitigation

Under the current plan, construction should not affect the accessibility to businesses.  In rare cases when construction may impact driveways the contractor will make every effort to provide temporary limited access to these properties. However, it is possible that construction will impact parking directly adjacent to where work is being performed.   Prior to construction, significant public outreach will occur. Outreach includes this notification, virtual information meetings, direct e-mails, door-to-door notifications, signage boards, DPW construction updates webpage, press releases, and social media postings.  During construction, businesses will be notified in-person when work will be occurring in front of their property. General project updates will be available on the Town’s website and social media pages.  The excavation will be filled in and the street made passable at the end of each day.
