Reading Town Forest Project

Major Logging Operation begins Friday, Jan. 24
Town Forest Closed

Please be aware that beginning Friday, January 24 a major logging operation will commence in the Town Forest.  Crews will be working from 7AM-7PM Monday-Friday working to cut down trees throughout the forest.  Residents should AVOID the Town Forest until the work is complete, a minimum of two weeks, due to dangerous work, heavy equipment, and falling trees throughout the forest.  After a careful study done by the Town Forest Committee, more than 500 trees are being taken out of the forest in order to reduce the danger of dead trees, improve sunlight to the forest floor, and balance the age and size of the trees making the forest more resilient during storms.

Alternative hiking and walking trails are available at the Mattera Cabin and Bare Meadow facilities.

Work will not be conducted in the Town Forest on Saturdays and Sundays, but site work may still pose hazards to pedestrians.
