Reading Ranks 13th Safest City in America
This award honors not only the Reading Police Department, but also a community bonded in prideful citizenship. The success of any crime prevention strategy requires a resourceful, vigilant police force and the full commitment of its residents.
According to Location, Inc., creators of the neighborhood research site, NeighborhoodScout, the data used for this research are 1) the total number of UCR crimes reported to the FBI to have occurred in each city, and 2) the population of each city. The UCR crime counts reflect calendar year 2011, which are the most recent and fully vetted data with complete national coverage classified by the FBI as "Final, Non-preliminary."
Since 2002, NeighborhoodScout has published a list of the top 100 "Safest Cities in America", calculated on cities with 25,000 or more population, and based on the total number of crimes per 1,000 residents.
