Food, Meals Or Shopping
Food Pantry
Old South United Methodist Church - 6 Salem St. - Reading, MA 01867
Hours of Operation: Mon. 7-8pm and Fri. 10:30-11:30am.

Food Stamps
Food stamps help you buy food. Whether you live alone or live with others, whether you have children or not, sometimes you can't pay all the bills and still have enough money to buy food. That's when food stamp benefits can really help.  And you may be eligible even if you are working. Food Source Hotline at 1-800-645-8333

SERVE
Serve is a smart alternative to food shopping. Everyone, regardless of age or income, can participate. The only requirement is 2 hours of volunteer service per month, which you are probably already doing! If you are giving your time and energy to anyone outside your immediate family then Serve wants to reward you with top quality food at a 40% discount. Local sites include Lynn and Stoneham. 888-742-7363

Shopping Assistance
Shopping assistance is available for the weekly purchase of food and medical prescriptions. This service is for individuals who are unable to shop due to illness or disability. A volunteer shopper reviews the shopping list, purchases the items with the client’s money and delivers the items to the client’s home. A donation is suggested to help cover the cost of coordination of the program. Contact the Coordinator of Volunteers at 781-942-6657 for more information.

Shopping Escort
A volunteer can escort a senior to the grocery store and assists with the shopping. Shopping is once a week, usually the same day and time, for approximately 1.5 hours. A stop at CVS or Brooks can be included. Contact the Coordinator of Volunteers at 781-942-6657 for more information.

Meals on Wheels
A nutritious meal delivered by a friendly driver goes a long way in helping maintain independence. Meals on Wheels provide a daily meal for individuals over 60 years old who are homebound and unable to prepare their own food. A Mystic Valley Elder Services case manager determines eligibility for this program. 781-324-7705
