MassDOT Construction Update

MassDOT will be opening bids for the West St. Reconstruction Project on Sept. 30, 2014.  The contract is expected to be awarded during the winter months.  A public informational meeting will be held once the Contract has been awarded and a schedule has been submitted on how the project will proceed.  West Street residents will be notified once the meeting has been scheduled. Detours, road closures, and delays should be expected during construction.   The Engineering Division will be updating its website before and during construction as information becomes available.

 

West Street MWRA Water Main Update

The MWRA will begin the installation of their 36” water main on Oct. 1, 2014, between the Woburn Town Line and Oak Street.  Construction is expected to take up to 3 months to complete.  MWRA will be leaving a flyer to residents along the route.  Detours, road closures, and delays should be expected during construction.  The Engineering Division will be updating its website before and during construction as information becomes available.

 

National Grid Gas Main Replacement Update

National Grid has completed all of its gas main replacement work related to this project.  National Grid will be installing a new gas main  on West Street (Johnson Woods Drive to the Wilmington Town Line), commencing within the next couple of weeks, but is a separate project not associated with the West Street Reconstruction project.

PROJECT LOCATION AND LIMITS

 

The project includes the West Street Corridor from the Woburn City Line to just north of its intersection with Willow Street in Reading, Massachusetts.  Improvements to the intersection of Woburn Street at Summer Avenue are also included as part of the project.  The project limits along the corridor extend approximately 7,500 feet (1.4 miles) along West Street and an additional 2,500 feet (.5 mile) along the intersecting side streets for a total project length of approximately 10,000 feet (1.9 miles).

 

Construction is anticipated to begin Spring 2014.  Additional information will follow shortly as it becomes available.
