Detective Bureau

Sergeant Mark D. Segalla - Detective Division Commander

The Detective Bureau is directed by Sergeant Mark D. Segalla, a 13 year veteran of the Reading Police Department. Reading currently has four detectives, Officers Michael Saunders, Derek Holmes, Pasquale Iapicca and Michelle Halloran.  A detective is assigned to the Criminal Division of the department and is subject to the supervision, direction, and control of the Division Commander. He shall be responsible for the follow-up investigations of all murders, homicides and unattended deaths; rapes; robberies, including armed and unarmed; breaking and entering of all types; aggravated assaults; larcenies, including certain types of check and credit card cases; auto thefts; and fires of suspicious origin which have had preliminary investigations conducted by the Patrol Section and cannot be further investigated by them due to established policies and procedures of the department with regards to at what point the Criminal Division shall be assigned to handle the investigation of a case where the extension of their efforts exceeds the normal limitations of time and place in seeking to satisfactorily close the investigation of the crime.

A Detective pursues all reports received of narcotics violations within the community by initiating full investigations which utilize all the various resources available from within the department, from other criminal justice agencies or informants.  Devectives conduct similar type of investigation upon receiving reports of potential criminal acts which may be perpetrated within the community.  Detectives will also be responsible, along with the patrol section, for the suppression of organized crime and vice within the community.

The Reading Police Department in conjunction with the Patrol Division and Criminal Bureau have constructed a link for victims of crimes or unfortunate circumstances where as a result, their property has become lost or stolen.  This link supplies photos of property either recovered, found or reported lost or stolen.  This is not an all inclusive list but does contain data that is either recently (within the last month) brought into the police station as lost property or submitted as evidence in an on-going criminal investigation.  Residents of Reading are encouraged to photograph their valued property before they have been the victim of a crime or lost property. In the event this property ever becomes the subject of lost or stolen goods, they may be submitted by you and promptly posted on this site for potential identification by other residents or surrounding law enforcement agencies.  Photos of any property will not be posted unless the loss or theft has been officially reported to the Reading Police Department and a police incident number has been assigned to the matter.  Lost or Stolen Property Photos

The Detective Bureau offers our residents an opportunity to "Report A Crime" through an on-line web-based medium.  If you would like to report criminal activity or an on-going matter that may require the police to investigate, please follow this link and let us know! Report A Crime
