Support Services Division
The Reading Police Department Support Services Division is led by Lt. Richard W. Robbins, a 27 year veteran of the department.
Support Services is made up of three patrol officers who are responsible for weapons maintenance, vehicle maintenance, community services, and the safety program. There are also part-time civiilian staff who are in charge of Parking Enforcement and Animal Control. Currently, both of these positions are staffed by one person, Ronald Burns.
The Armorer is in charge of weapons and vehicle mainentance. Officer Chris Picco assumed this role in January of 2007 and has overseen the recent purchase and outfitting of two new cruisers and 39 Glock 9mm - the first new service weapons in the town in more than ten years.
Community Services is managed by Officer James Collins. Programs he has helped manage in the past include: the ham & bean dinner, town fair
The Safety Officer is Michael Lee. In addition to assisting the community in traffic safety decisions about sign placement, speed limits, and cross walks, Officer Lee manages the School Crossing Guard program which includes twenty-four part-time employees.
The Armorer/Fleet Maintenance . Officer Picco is in charge of Firearms Training for the Police Department. Chris has been tasked with many responsibilities and duties in Support Services. He is currently in charge of scheduling all appointments for LTC (License To Carry Firearms) renewals. Officer Picco also handles all Solicitor Registration through the police department for the Town of Reading.
