Circuit Breaker program
Tax Rebate for Seniors - Certain taxpayers age 65 or older may be eligible to claim a refundable credit on their state income taxes for the real estate taxes paid during the tax year on the residential property they own or rent in Massachusetts that is used as their principal residence. By filing a MA Income Tax form you may be eligible for a rebate from the State, especially if you do not make enough money to file. The MA Income Tax form is used to apply for the Circuit Breaker which is a tax credit against your rent for renters or property taxes for homeowners over the age of 65 with limited income. Tax preparers should ask those who file, how much they paid in real estate taxes and water/sewer fees. If you prepare your own tax return, it may be wise to itemize.
